In 2004, I met photographer Lee Balterman on a random street corner in Chicago. Lee was a former Life photographer. We ended up becoming friends and spent time photographing together during my years in Chicago. Lee introduced me to Milwaukee Avenue, among other places. He had a sharp eye, a dry sense of humor, and endless stories from a lifetime behind the lens.
I made a small documentary about him named “Pictures of Lee”, which was displayed during his solo show at Stephen Daiter Gallery in 2006. Contact me if you are interested in seeing the film.
